Here’s three reasons why you should vote for me:

      1) I only realised I could actually study space for a living when I was 21, by which time I had taken entirely the wrong degree and A Levels! I just about scrape by, but I don’t want others to make the same mistake: I want to tell as many students as I can just how exciting space is, and exactly how they can study it themselves.

      2) Even if you don’t want to study space as a career, SPACE IS AMAZING. Who doesn’t want to spend a day being taught how to look at a planet’s surface and read billions of years into the past? If you voted for me I could buy a giant globe of Mars and tell you where best to find water, where to stand for the best views, where to dig and have the best chances of finding fossilised life. Space isn’t taught often enough in schools, and it’s too cool not to share.

      3) If I win, I will personally dress one of my boyfriend’s cats (as I sadly have none of my own) in a homemade astronaut suit and send you all pictures.

When I was at school no scientists came and spoke to us or even explained what might be possible within a scientific career. I have been lucky that I have ended up in an area of science I enjoy. As Lucy said, it can be easy to pick the wrong subjects if you don’t know what is possible in a future career. Science shouldn’t be locked away only for scientists. We should be involving the public and schools in the work we do.

Therefore I would say vote for me as I have a passion for promoting science especially anything space related. The prize money would allow me to setup some experiments that can be sent out to schools to introduce children to astronomy where the schools themselves aren’t able to.

hmm here’s a few things that I hope could persuade you…

I am a scientist but I also do lots of other fun things like play sports all over the world! I want to show that scientists are normal people too and have lots of similar hobbies to you.

Also, I really want to launch a space balloon project with school kids with the prize money. A space balloon is a powerful balloon that you can attach cameras and science experiments to and send them into the edge of space! That means we can take amazing pictures and learn about how to build machines that can survive space.

Finally, my work will hopefully help us one day build a Moon base which I think is really awesome!
