• Question: How did they get the ISS up in space?

      They launched it bit by bit using the Space Shuttle and other launchers. So one of the design constraints on the ISS is that it has to be made from lots of smaller pieces, each of which have to fit on a rocket . . . that is why the ISS is made of lots of modules / compartments.
