I was fairly young (or it feels it now) when I first became interested in space, probably 10 – 12 years old? Typically I would always find myself watching documentaries on science but predominately space. Finding out how the stars and planets formed was always very exciting for me. It wasn’t until I was quite a bit older that I got myself my own telescope and started to look at the night sky in more detail.

When I was six, and my dad got a computer game called Nine Worlds free with a magazine. I played it on repeat until I knew the names of every planet, moon, and spacecraft. I can clearly remember the narrator saying how someone alive today might be the first person to climb the highest volcano on Mars, and six-year-old me wanting to be that person.

I had always been interested in Science and finding things out. I was interested most in Space because we didn’t get to learn about it in school so it was something different and exciting. When I was 12 I was very lucky to go to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida where I saw a space shuttle launch! It was incredible learning about NASA and I wanted to be a part of it.

I grew up with my Dad showing me Star Wars. He used to tell me it was true story! When I got old enough to realise that something was not quite right with that explanation, he said “Yes, son, you are right! It is not true . . . I wrote it!” . . . so Star Wars made quite an impression on me from a verrrry early age.
