      I love hugging rocks because they are little time machines that tell us what a planet was up to millions or even billions of years ago. They preserve the type of climate and environment they formed in (for instance shale was once an ocean floor, and iron-rich sandstone was a sandy desert) and can also be very pretty (schist is a lovely shiny rock that is a favourite of mine).

      Give me a rock and I will try to hug it and say thank you for letting me peek at times long past.
